The Benefits of Tranquility

Tranquility—serenity, calmness, peaceful, quiet, stillness, silence, composure, reposefulness, heavenly, restful, relaxing, soothing . . .

One of my missions is, and has been for many years, to promote peace. In my daily living and writings, I strive to share moments I’ve found that bring me solace. It is why I wrote Tranquility. Transformation. Transcendence. Working on the book was fabulous for me, and my wish is that you benefit from my photos and poems, as well.

Who doesn’t want the abundant, renewing benefits of tranquility? If each of us could maintain peace within, the entire world would be calmer. There’d be less conflict, heartache, and stress.

A peaceful environment helps us to focus, reduces stress, and increases productivity, patience, creativity, self-awareness, and concentration. Some researchers also believe it may promote brain cell growth in the hippocampus.

Here are some ways to experience a tranquil environment and create a personal sanctuary. Think about incorporating even a few of these steps into your life.

  • Declutter.

  • Choose subtle colors for room décor.

  • Add indoor plants.

  • Spend time in the midst of nature.

  • Play gentle music.

  • Begin the day with a positive thought.

  • Meditate.

  • Take breaks from electronic devices.

  • Pray.

  • Nurture family, friends, strangers, and yourself.

  • Exercise.

  • Practice conscious breathing.

  • Forgive and ask for forgiveness.

  • Avoid violent, cruel, and profane media.

  • Think before acting.

  • Smile.
